Fairwinds' spacious interior has all the conveniences desired for extended cruising: Fairwinds main salon has full 6' standing headroom, is bright and well ventilated. The Fairwinds sleeps five - two in the forward V-berth cabin, two on the double berth in the cozy cuddy cabin under the cockpit, and one on the 6' 8" long portside setee. The Fairwinds galley with its L-shaped counter extension is genuinely convenient for meal preparation. There's lots of counter space. And a drop leaf extension provides extra counter space when it's needed. Storage space located beneath the counter holds provisions for days and days of cruising and there's also plenty of space under the galley counter for an optional insulated ice box - plus room for all the utensils used to prepare and serve meals. Handy bins above the counter top extension provide storage for much more! The keel raising/lowering winch is conveniently located (and concealed) under the fiberglass hatch in the starboard cockpit seat. And there is a tremendous storage area, accessible through the hatch, for sail bags, anchor and other bulky gear.

Outboard Motor Compartment: The optional outboard motor accessory is located in the stern compartment at the aft end of the cockpit. It provides access to the motor through the molded fiberglass hatch - giving the appearance and performance of expensive inboard power, but using a much lower-cost outboard motor.

Auxiliary Power: A 10-15 horsepower outboard can be completely concealed in the Fairwinds lazarette engine compartment when the optional outboard motor compartment kit is installed. The engine compartment is completely isolated from the hull interior by a water/fume tight bulkhead. Because the outboard's propeller is immediately ahead of the rudder, there is positive control - and when not in use the motor can be raised clear of the water on its sliding mount - to eliminate all drag and any chance of salt water corrosion. The engine compartment has shelves on both sides for batteries and fuel tanks. The motor can be operated through the hinged overhead hatch or with the standard outboard motor manufacturer's remote throttle/shift control system. (Removable dropboards ahead of the motor provide full access to the motor.) The Fairwinds can also be inboard powered with engine under the cockpit - just aft of the companionway - in the conventional location.

The Fairwind's large 7-foot, self-bailing cockpit comfortably seats six to eight adults on chair height seats with deep molded-in backrests. The cockpit footwell has a built-in drain to carry spray or rain overboard and the cockpit's seating and standing surfaces, like the cabin top, side decks and forward deck, have molded-in non-skid surfaces for sure footing - whether wet or dry.

It's easy to come and go between cockpit and cabin on the Fairwinds 27. The spacious companionway provides excellent ventilation, overhead lighting and closes and locks securely. The "safety brake" winch to raise and lower the swing keel is conveniently located in the starboard seat locker - where it's handy to the helmsman and crew. The seat locker also provides access to the huge storage space below - ideal for bulky sails, or other items you will want to keep in a safe, dry place. The Fairwinds 27 uncluttered forward deck has a molded-in non-skid finish - so it's easy to change head sails in any sea. And the forward deck hatch provides excellent ventilation below.
